A Little Housekeeping

Rather than mailing a bill, I went into town the other day to just drop off the payment.  With all the publicity about delays in mailing, I thought I would just add the stop to other running around I wanted to get done.  Pulling out of the parking lot, I spotted a bunch of vultures (known as a committee, or a venue) perched in this tree.  However if they flew to the ground to feed on a carcass, they are referred to as a "wake".  Interesting and very cool, right?

A Little Housekeeping

Wild Bird Wednesday

The Bird D'Pot

Before heading home, I zipped by the lake location primarily to check if either of the adult Bald Eagles was hanging around the last year's nest vicinity.

Usually, although mating and nesting doesn't take place until February-March, they stake their claim in the Fall to avoid "nest takeover."

Seeing the Canada Geese hanging out on shore, when I looked up, there fighting the fierce winds, it was...one  adult Bald Eagle making it's way to the nesting territory.

Making a quick stop at the nest I've been monitoring since 2017...a nest that appeared to be nearly gone just weeks ago because of all the high winds and storms this year....

11/01/21

was coming along just fine....as the pair has definitely made claim and substantial progress!

Again, how cool for us that you have such sharp eyes. The vultures, and the way they are perched and arranged in the tree, reminds me of a grusomely decorated holiday tree!

I didn't know the different names for a group of vultures. Interesting.
We've got a good many geese at our lake and we see very few vultures unless there is roadkill somewhere.
