My resident hawk has become a regular. Watching it's behavior, I noticed it seems more interested in ground rodents than the smaller birds. As far as I'm concerned, it can hunt all it wants to reduce the numbers of moles, voles, and mice. Another observation is where it hides, as well as the directions it comes and goes. A "Sharpie" (aka Sharp-Shinned Hawk) would be more interested in my small birds.
