When my MIL was alive, I would always "oooooohhhhhh and aaaahhhhhhh" over her Dahlias that she'd plant each Spring and lift in the Fall. Located in her front yard, right near the corner so they could be seen from either direction, they brightened up the entire corner as passersby admired them each Summer. The tubers were vintage as she had them for years.
After my MIL passed away and all of us "kids" gathered at the house, my BIL (her youngest) took me aside and said, "Go dig the Dahlias. She would want you to have them."
Still lifted every Fall, they are replanted each Spring...in a corner of my yard where they can be seen from either direction.
