A Simple Name Change
Wow! Although it seems hard to believe, I now have (sort of) a "new" laptop. Although I really must tell you that it is a re-built/refurbished Toshiba touch screen that is a taupe/gray and a little bigger than my iPad. However, it is much lighter and much more convenient than my old laptop and iPad. I loved it!!
Faster than a speeding bullet, it boots up, shuts down and processes in seconds. It also has a ton of software that is new to me, so yes, there is a learning curve.
My genius "techie" took all my files (photos, music, docs, downloads) off my T-Rex (Terabyte) drive and placed them on a micro SD card so now my T-Rex is no longer storage. It is solely used for regularly scheduled back-ups.
What is slick is this...
From now on, anything I do with photos, music, downloads, and docs is automatically done/accessed through that tiny, little micro SD and the only stuff on the laptop are the programs that run it. As it was explained to me, the laptop is only the engine and by setting it up so everything else goes to the micro SD, the laptop will stay clean, fast and efficient. "It is only the engine, JP." I am so impressed thus far and from how things are designed and working, I tell you that man is a genius! In fact, I actually began calling him "Genius."
After using it for about 10 days, I texted "Genius" asking if, on the follow-up visit, he could simplify a few more things for me. Giving me an appointment two days later, the accommodating, soft spoken gentleman said, "Sure, no problem."
It was after booting it up, he turned to me and said, "JP, what did you do? How did you get an additional 3 gigs of data added to the hard drive in just 10 days?" (I know you cannot hear the tone of his voice through my words, but trust me, it really wasn't THAT soft-spoken, calm, easy-going Genius I know.)
Bewildered, embarrassed and dumbfounded, I shrugged my shoulders and began with, " All I did was...blah, blah, blah."
So bottom line is this. We...he did run into a small problem of about 3 gigs, which now has to be found, checked for virus', compared file by file, etc. and programmed to work accordingly.
After leaving him last week, I decided that his name is no longer "Genius." I went home, stood outside and inhaled deeply. Now I call him Sherlock.
