On The Bright Side (Part 1)

After speaking with numerous tree removal services and learning that you cannot compare apples and oranges, we have finally decided on a local tree service.  Once the trees have been taken down and prior to the installation of the solar, a "shade analysis" is performed. The result determines a state rebate which can be between $3500-$5000 which in essence would pay for the removal.  The work that these guys do is incredible so we are grateful we found them.  According to John, they will begin in about a week and the process should take about 5 days.   

This whole process is quite a learning experience, I'll tell you.  For instance, several companies that came in with a higher bid and said they would "take the wood and the chips."  Initially that sounded great.  However, because our wheels are always turning, we thought why not keep the wood and chips use it to our advantage? 

The prospective tree service will stack the lumber and chip the brush.  The chipped brush will be piled in the woods and left to deteriorate to use at a later date for great topsoil.  The lumber will be used in one of two ways: let a friend take the wood in exchange for letting the Pres and Luke use his bucket loader to pull the trunks when we're ready OR cut, split and sell the wood ourselves.  

Sure it's more work.   But the Pres needs something to keep him busy come the Fall and he figures that the wood would.  

Meanwhile, we've been making progress by moving things.  Most of the shade loving plants have been relocated along with the Astilbes, Lily of the Valley, Soloman's Seal and Black Labradorian Violet.  I have a few more Hostas to dig but for now I am going to put them in pots just to get them out of the way.  

Just the other day, I began moving the Jack-in-the-Pulpits...one by one.  And although I still have the Ostrich Ferns and a few other wild flowers to relocate, I know I can get it done before the crew arrives.

Where there's a will, there's a way.

Yes, solar might just be okay, after all.
