Popping Out
Does anyone else ever experience this?
When something is out of place in your home, does it seem to pop out at you?
Seriously, if a knife were in with the forks, it would pop out at you immediately, right?
Well, that's what happened the morning I was preparing Baked Macaroni and Cheese.
Looking out the kitchen window, I saw this and thought,
" Hey, that dark blob doesn't belong there."
Relying on "zoomer" for this job, I got a tad closer only to discover turkeys.
There were about ten turkeys roosting in the trees.
Did you know that when the snow is light, fluffy and deep, the turkeys cannot walk on it?
Nor can they dig through it for natural foods. Because of their size and weight, they would sink. In the Winter, turkeys can tolerate the cold if they have adequate food to prevent excessive weight loss.
So, the food they nibble on while off the ground consists of the berries of the many Winterberry vines. Once the snow hardens they will be able to look for nuts once again.
