Ever heard of a Fairy Stone?
There are not many places in the world where you can find the "lucky fairy stones". Staurolite crystals are a mineral formation that occurs naturally. Legend has it that fairies lived in these quiet foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. When the fairies heard the tragic news about Christ's death, they wept. And, "as their tears fell to earth, they crystallized into little stone crosses." Absolutely heart warming!
Of course, the scientific explanation of the crystals is that they were formed when the earth's crust folded, creating the Appalachian Mountains. The perfect mixture of heat and pressure combined with the iron aluminum silicate to create the staurolite crystals in a schist rock matrix which eventually eroded away. It was at that point the harder ones were released to lie on the earth's surface. Science...ugh...how boring!
About an hour's drive from Home in the Hollow, is a beautiful almost magical place called Fairy Stone State Park. I went there the other day and it was AWESOME! It's a huge park with all kinds of things to do. With over 4,600 acres, there is a picnic ground, a beach and swimming area, those little bouncy animals thingies that the kids can ride on, tons trails to hike, cabin rentals, camping facilities, boating and fishing, let alone the chance to find a lucky fairy stone! According to the park ranger, there is a lodge there for get togethers which sleeps 16, has three bathrooms, a kitchen and a living area as well!

Perhaps I should get a job with the parks department...now there's an idea! As Scarlett said, " I'll think about that tomorrow." Anyway, I'm too busy to apply for a job now...I'm going fairy stone hunting! Wish me luck!
